New York Public Library: Top Picks!

I'm honored that Veronica's Grave: A Daughter's Memoir made the 2017 summertime reading list of none other than the New York Public Library! The list is comprised of the top picks of librarians throughout the library system. That my memoir was selected by the head librarian at the exciting new Bronx Library Center seems most fitting, as I was born in the heart of the once Beautiful Bronx where "the best people live."

The Bronx Library Center, resembling a mid-sized building more commonly found in Manhattan than the Bronx, is full of surprises. For one, as you enter the five-story building, the circulation desk to the right has an eye-catching moving banner that reels off library-related news.

Half the first floor is given over to teens, with sections devoted to comics/graphics and audio-books, and the entire second floor is the children's reading area. On the lower level, there's a large auditorium and a space that's ideal for concerts, film screenings, and other events such as author readings and celebrations of Hispanic culture.

With four research centers in Manhattan and 88 neighborhood libraries throughout Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx, the New York Public Library provides far more than access to books and materials. The Library offers 55,000 free programs annually, serving everyone from toddlers to teens to seniors. This morning I discovered that one branch has 17 requests for their three circulating copies of Veronica's Grave, and that other NYPL branches have copies on order due this month.

For all of these reasons, this 'Bronx Girl Forever' is delighted to have Veronica's Grave recognized by the NYPL. If you haven't read it by now, it's time to grab a copy and head for the beach. And, yes, there are beaches in the Bronx including Silver Beach, City Island Beach, and Orchard Beach built under the supervision of one on the great city planners, Robert Moses.

But don't delay. Checking with Amazon this morning, there were 120 reviews (blessings on the heads of all who wrote reviews) and one copy in stock! Is that possible? More on order, more to come.

Do you know someone looking for a good summertime read? Both the NYPL and I highly recommend Veronica's GraveWill you do me a favor and share this post, s'il vous plaît.

Merci beaucoup mes amis...
